About Us
Deborah MacDougall, Author
MacDougall spent her childhood being the family clown and always had a gift for finding the humor in life. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and went on to launch a career in international business development and public relations. From traveling to remote areas of the world on sensitive US Government projects in Russia to developing crisis communications campaigns for companies in peril, MacDougall thought she had seen it all. That is until she began her divorce journey, where her case was ranked among 2013’s and 2015’s top cases in the "Year in Review" by Virginia Lawyers Weekly (and also became a cover story). Friends would call and joke, “You made the cover of the top legal journal! How does it feel to finally be a cover girl in your 50s?” Divorce is the second most traumatic event that can occur in one's lifetime. MacDougall felt that if she could find a little humor in the tragedy of divorce it could be empowering to others. So, in 2016 she wrote and developed a fun and therapeutic comic coloring book to help women better cope with divorce. After thirteen years of protracted divorce proceedings and litigation in April of 2023 the case was still active at the time of her husband's death. She never got divorced. Sadly, in the end she simply became his widow. |

Ian Stinson, Co Author |
Ian kept asking, well I have never been married, am I really qualified to do this? Who else could make Equitable Distribution even remotely funny? Only someone as kind as Ian, would have the patience to spend months working on a comic coloring book for women. He watched a few YouTube videos women had posted about their divorce. In the sincerity of a small child, he asked if it really was that bad. When he realized we all really needed some comic relief he came charging to the rescue.
